Drive Type = DVD DUAL
Disc Type = DVD-R (Single Layer)

Disc TID = 30 34 00 00 00 00 (04…)

Is this good media? 69$ for a 50 spindle.

It’s okay media. Not the best around, especially with their recent slip in quality, but still decent stuff.

*Edit: removed stuff since I just noticed that you’re in Australia, not the US. Oops!

#3

Hm… I’ve been wondering why there have been such drastic drops in price. Could you elaborate a bit?

#4

Can I?

I was using blank RitekG04 without any problems and with great K’probe and CDSpeed scans (for a -R + Liteon combination). Few weeks ago I bought another spindle of blank G04s from my usual supplier, and I had 4/10 coaster-rate (write errors during burning; as a last resort I tried sony frimware, with no effect). Also, in K’probe scans, PI/PO values were 3 times higher, and 2 more disks returned CIRC errors on CDSpeed scan. Basically, only 4 of 10 disks were usable. That is what you can expect form Princo, AN31, but not from Ritek. :a

First scan is from good batch, second is best scan from latest batch

Thanks for those scans. I’m glad that you responded, because I was about to order some G04s from Supermediastore.com. Actually, I think I’m going to check out their brand, just for the heck of it/to test it.

It’s kind of weird, but now that I have a DVD burner, I am burning things left and right!

The second scan from the latest batch doesn’t look all that bad. It looks fairly good to decent.

#7

I know, but that was the best scan, other scans were much worse. But, more important is that I had 4 write errors and 2 CIRC errors out of 10 discs. :frowning:
In older batches I never had a single coaster on G04.

Hmmm… I hope Ridsc DVD-R are better since i just ordered a 25 spindle…

I just a ten pack of Imation branded dvd-r (Ritek g04), My first disc was said by nero to have burned sucessfully, but my 851s won’t even recognize it. Kprobe 2 says no media. My second disc burned at 2x, but it came out blank, even though nero said it was done sucessfully.
Here is my media code…
Drive Type = DVD DUAL
Disc Type = DVD-R (Single Layer)
Disc MID = 52 49 54 45 4B 47 (RITEKG)
Disc TID = 30 33 00 00 00 00 (03…)
Nominal Capacity = 4.38GB
Manufacturer Maybe = RiTEK Corporation
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 4.0X (Write)
Should I return these crappers before I try anymore?
I am using gs0f firmware and never had any problems with dvd+r.
Thanks guys

I’ve ordered Ritek G04 50pc packs from NewEgg on three separate occasions. I was horrified by the burns in my Lite-on 812S… even burning at 2x I would get an unrecoverable read error on 1 of 3 discs, and 4x burns were just undoable. However, I haven’t had a single unrecoverable error burning these things on my PX-712A or NEC-2500A at 4x. YMMV.

Same problem on BTC 1008IM with the last pack I received. I tried 3 firmware version with no success.
I don’t know what to buy now …

Gawd… I wish people would just quit buying these G04’s already instead of continuing to bitch about them. Maybe then they would sit and rot on the shelfs and Ritek would smarten up or go under…

#13

Well maybe someone should start a thread about which companies relabel these damned discs.
I know Imation does. I also know I will NEVER buy another Ritek, as there are too many riscs for me. I don’t like to waste my money.

Seems to work better on my BTC burner with the last firmware. I can’t burn D2-12L* but seems to work with others serial number D2-23L* D2-24L* and D2-09L*

What is strange is that the media code block of D2-12L seems to be the same than my old Ritek that were working fine :
