Just acquired a Sony DRU-500A and a Philips dvdr-985 video recorder (DVD+R, DVD+RW) and would like an opinion on which inexpensive (read only) drives to purchase, to up grade my other systems. Would like DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW read capablity at reasonably high speed. CD reading not an issue as all the systems aleady have cd-rom drives.
Lite-On 166S. This baby is only $34 + $6 shipping @ newegg. Reads DVD everything.
Where is a good place for lite-on dvd specs? The lit-on site seems broke.... Whats the diff between the 163 and the 166s?
Lite-On DVD division is under the new name JLMS. 163 doesn't cache, so you get faster CD to MP3 rip speed. 166S reads everything. Do a search on this forum, the question has been asked and answered many many times. And the 166S is almost 1" shorter in length.
