GM Navigation DVD 3.0

There have been various threads regarding nav dvds. I read one person with the Acura had some luck, another with the GM did not. When scanned with a-ray it reveals no copy protection. I ran decrypter and made the image. It’s roughly 6 gigs. In the write mode I went into the plextor options and changed booktype to dvd-rom as suggested. The Success prompt came up, and I click ok. Back to the main write menu and the Book Type still shows up as DVD+R DL. Is this normal or should it be showing as changed to dvd-rom? The dvd will not read in the vehicle. Does anyone have any suggestions such as another program or can we verify any success with the GM nav discs?

Thanks for your time.

Also to note, I am using Verbatim DL blanks.

It’s been a couple months since your post but a google search on navigation dvds lead me to this post. I was searching to see if there was a newer version out yet. I bought my 2005 Avalaunche about 4 months ago.

The first thing i did was backup my navigation DVD. I also used DVD Decrypter and made an image ( mds file ). However i did not change the book type at all ( just lucky i guess ). I have a pioneer 107D DVD burner using firmware version 1.21. I also used a Verbatim DVD + R DL and it plays in the truck just fine. It’s all i use to keep from scratching my orignal disc.

Hope this helps.

I just bought a dvd nav, and the bastard shorted me the dvd. If any of you would mind sharing your (working) image, I sure would appreciate it. PM me.

Has there been any other movement on this? We’ve just got a 2005 Yukon, and cannot for the life of me burn a copy of my GM Nav 3.0 disc.

Lite-On drive with DVD-ROM enabled, does not produce results. Same media as above.

Any other ideas?

Oh, I guess I should mention, used DVDdecrypter, Nero 6.6, 7.0 with no results.

Just ran A-Ray, appears no copy protection is enabled. However, I’ve read about “SafeDisc”… is this some sort of new(er) protection that A-Ray doesn’t detect?

What version of DVDDecrypter are you using? Do you have a Patin-Couffin layer running, or DVD43? What burning software did you use? Do you know if your burner’s IDE channel is set to PIO or DMA?

VERSION 4.1 . . . . . . . HAS BEEN DIS-EMBOWLED. Bought a 15pk of dvd-dl’s, expecpting a challenge; not a single coaster. Questions?

Just wanted to let anyone who is trying to get a backup of their disc that it is possible because I just did it. I have a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe with NAVI and was able to make a back-up of my new 2008 (#25847541) updated disc. Keep these things in mind though:

  1. YOU WILL NEED A DVD BURNER THAT WILL LET YOU BURN THE .ISO AS A DVD ROM (you have to change the booktype in the settings) Check Google to find out how. My burner is from a new HP Laptop.
  2. I burned it with NERO 8 at 2.4X Speed
  3. I used Verbatim 8X DVD+R Dual Layer Disc. (The other 3 discs I tried are now coasters.

I made two attempts at burning the new 2008 Nav DVD last night. The first one failed during verify but I then changed the firmware in my Sony DRU-700A to a patched version of VY05 that allowed for booktype changes. The second attempt appeared to be successful but the player will not read the DVD. It successfully updated the Nav radio but would not read after that. I suspect this was a result more of the media used (HP DVD+R DL) than anything else. It was all I could find on short notice. I’ll get some Verbatim blanks and try it again after the weekend.

Ok I think the real trick is to use nero assuming you have the proper DVD writer. But Not all DVD writers are equal. NERO is probably one of the best DVD burning softwares around and it does all the things you need to do to make a back up disk automatically.

If you can verify that your DVD writer can write the booktype ROM and write a Dual Layer DVD then NERO will take care of the rest

www.nero.com

You can download NEROs trial for free but it only lasts for 15 days… its a great software. Id just buy it if you plan on backing up or burning more stuff later. These NAV DVDs are expensive

As a reminder I did back up newest 2008 GM Nav DVD GM Part # 25847541 and it worked great. If you still need help obtaining this disk PM me!

Hey guys, alot of good information here. I appreciate all the help. I’m so mad though, I’ve made an entire 15 pack of DVD-DL’s into coasters using three different computers and two seperate programs. I’m so sick and tired of it, all I want is a backup of my nav disk in case my kids get into it and ruin the only copy I have!!! Regardless instead of getting another pack of dvd’s I was hoping to get a backup from one of you. The part number I need is 25847541. If anyone would help, it would be really appreciated and I’d definately compensate you for your time. PM me and let me know. Thanks!
