As most cheaper DVD players are not really specialised, basically with no DVD check (means all DVDR (blank/recordable) will play) or care, or time ,or money 2 develop counter-protection techniques for piracy. Basically like DVD-ROM dat plays a lot.
I just bought a ‘pacific’ DVD Player for £29 ($46). It plays everything, even AVI’s and DVD’s not authored ( not recognised as a DVD, but just has VOBs./IFOs etc). It even plays some DivX but no XVID. I also had a DVD mixed with an individual VCD file and a DVD folder, they all played.
If it plays VCD’s/SVCD’s chances are it will do most stuff. As VCDs/SVCDs are not really protected and have different file format to DVD. So they can play some none DVD format files.
So i recommend u buy one like dat.
