German police charge 3,500 in latest major crackdown on P2P

I just posted the article German police charge 3,500 in latest major crackdown on P2P.

When the RIAA files a round of lawsuits, usually it is common to hear up to around 1,000 individuals being targeted for unauthorised file sharing across the US. Well, just when...

if they put this much effort into catching real crooks, I don;t think there would be as much of a problem with phishing, kiddie porn, hard drugs and murders. Why does it seem people who “defy the rights” of those with money get caught more often then those who commit series crimes?

How did they discover which items they were sharing? I thought it was possible to disable the possibility to browse the files on your share directories? Of course it’s also possible to allow browsing. Maybe they just forgot or were unaware that they could do it??? Otherwise it’s a bit difficult, I guess, to pinpoint all those files to a single user. I also wonder if Torrent users are also being targeted? I guess, with the Torrent technology, it’s a LOT more difficult to find who is sharing a lot?

Say this is far worse than the penalties imposed on all drunk drivers in Germany! Or as Prince Hamlet would say " O day and night, but this is wondrous strange!"

Siswell added: Well there goes eMule; which new P2P (enctryped?) are you moving to this time?
LOL, so true!! I mean that’s the question! they just don’t get it: people will be always changing to other programs! Clowns :+ :r

You guys want to laught?:stuck_out_tongue: 2 days ago, portuguese tv did show, on direct, the 3 players of National team, before go to German footbal Championship. Until here nothing special. The reporter, ask before the cath the plain, how did they would pass the time on German, during the games… One of them, open a big box, on is car, with a portable PC, DVD reader and many DVDs.. Nothing special, right? The funny, was that one of the movies was: - Basic Instint 2 - Impossible Mission 3 On direct, to all country! Now, the most impossible laught of all: The National " RIAA" on a internet comunicado: http://fevip.edupt.net/content/view/328/2/ says it sorrys that national team players are using pirates movies, and they should use original ones:S - and the "RIAA" even offers legitime DVDs to the players! Right: The guys win millions, buy pirate movies, and even receive original ones from the bast****!! Can you readers imagine this?:o Maney make spin the world.......at least to a few ones:g

“it’s a LOT more difficult to find who is sharing a lot?” Is that a question or an answer?

Ya but still possible to get sued on the new program too.

It is kinda good to see that its the peeps who just really dont give a shite, downloading all day, and having 1000´s of songs in their shared folders, or just 1000´s of songs downloaded…they are the ones being targeted. Sometimes I go on to get a song I cant get anywhere else. but only 1 or 2. Some stores here have shit for music. Ebay peeps dont ship the stuff I want to Europe. AND some of us dont have credit cards, and therefore cant even buy online. So what other options do I have beside not downloading the song at all???

I hope even German court and jail system will “choke up” with this high number of cases. Also the more they sue the more people aware of the issue and very soon even payed off politicians will not support them due to fear of their popularity.

Murderers are locked up for about 15 yeras in Germany. Filesharers will be locked up for 5 years. Isn’t that CRAZY!

Why does it seem people who “defy the rights” of those with money get caught more often then those who commit series crimes? End Quote Ran, I think you’re missing the point. The reason they don’t go so hard after the kiddie porn and hard drugs and such is because there are a lot of high powered (both rich and politically connected, even if they are not exactly “rich”) people who do those things and it would embarrass those in power to have their friends charged for those kinds of crimes. If you heard anything about Patrick Kennedy where you are, then you know of what I speak. :frowning:

I live in Germany. They used a fake eDonkey server to catch the users, basically a trap. A server can see exactly which files you are sharing. So be very careful what servers you are using. The best is to just have a couple in your list where you know they are real. Does anyone know what server they used, supposedly it’s still online???

Saruman: I know what you are talking about, saw some similar stuff on the banned doc, Conspiracy of Silence. Why the hell is it those with the money get to make the laws in a democracy. I guess it is time to redefine our worlds as monocracy. Those with money make all the rules. But seriously, can you imagine what things will be like when this kind of action happens stateside. “we are looking for filesharers because they are truely terrorists!” I just think it is sick that this kind of action gets more response then real crimes that hurt real people.

They mostly caught people that were sharing without any security in mind … people that allow any user to browse their shared files and people that didn’t use IP filtering …

Well the official excuse is that the laws must be made by the people who are the experts in the field. Apparently RIAA are the experts in the music field so they get to make the laws. I think it’s silly and oversimplified view of things, but it’s a good excuse for the general uninquisitive public.

Dont say that. For instance, Emule, you cant hide IP, from one Emule to the other… Only now, some Beta versions are starting use encription and false IPs:S You can hide your Mozilla/IE, but not Emule..:r Like someone said, many users, put 30 servers on the list Emule...sockers! Even Razor 2.0 Fake One..:+:+ Now that is what a call be stupid:p Its time to change: Full encription, false IP`s…:b:B

sorry to disappoint you, but there is no such thing as “full encryption” and “false ips”.
