Generic SoftK56

I’m installing a modem into a pc, I have the right drivers for the modem, but everytime i go to install them, XP detects it as Generic SoftK56 and then it claims it to be a perfect fit. Even though NOTHING WORKS. Maybe i should just look into uninstalling the Generic SoftK56 driver itself, any ideas?

just update the drivers urself and point it at the drivers u have.

I’ve tried that, it claims the Generic SoftK56 drivers are the best for it even after I point it to the folder where I have the drivers.

Do not let windows find the drivers, use the manual pathing option to update.

Indeed, and ignore any messages that installing the driver may be unsafe (driver is not certified or possibly not the best fit bla bla), just install it. In most cases that solves the problem.

Gee, I hate winmodems…

I used the dont choose for me option before and i pointed it to the right drivers and it wouldnt show me anything, but i figured it was some other reason, i completely didn’t see the oblique “Show All Hardware” Checkbox in the window. Stupid me. Thanks to all who replied and to those who didn’t, try to get involved; wrong answers still can lead to the right ones
