Gaming console disc drive specifications?

What are the specifications such as reading/writing speeds and supported media of disc drives from various gaming consoles?

  • Wii, WiiU
  • PlayStations.
  • xBoXes.
  • etc.

Nintendo has a long history with Panasonic.

The fact that programs like rawdump, friidump, etc … are able to read wii discs on some LG drives with a Panasonic MN* chipset, suggests the wii console used a dvd drive with the same Panasonic chipset. You’ll have to do some googling to figure out which particular drive model was used.

Xbox360 used several different drives, such as:

  • Phillips/LiteOn DG-16D2S
  • BenQ VAD-6038
  • Samsung/Toshiba TS-H943A
  • Hitachi/LG GDR-3120L

According to accuraterip statistics, the Phillips/LiteOn and BenQ drives are possibly mediatek chipsets while the Hitachi/LG drive is a Panasonic MN* chipset.

The Samsung/Toshiba TS-H943A drive appears to also be a mediatek chipset.
