Why buy an eReader at all? Amazon has the free Kindle Reader for PC or MAC, plus several smart phones, so just download the software to your smart phone and use it. Also, Barnes & Noble has books in PDF format so you can read them on anything that will run Adobe Reader (like your tablet PC maybe).

I like my Kindle and Sony eReaders because the screens actually aren’t as harsh on the eyes when viewing for a long period of time. When I sit down to read a book I may be there for several hours. The low power of the display also makes the battery last exponentially longer between charges than the average smart phone or notebook. Then there’s the fact that I like to read outside sometimes and the screen is just as easily viewable in the sunlight as an actual book. It makes night-reading more pleasant too…
