Fujifilm media rumors

I’m sure many of us have heard the rumors about Fujifilm switching from MIJ Taiyo Yuden media to MIT Prodisc/Ritek media for the US/Canada and European markets. Well it seems the same rumors are spreading in Japan of all places, that Fuji has plans to stop supplying TYG02 for its 8x DVD-R and replace it with ProdiscF01. It remains to be seen if these rumors are true or not, but the fact that it’s being spread through the Japanese DVD burning community doesn’t bode well.

On my two latests visits to a local wholesale shop I have seen ONLY Fujifilm Made in Taiwan and absolutely no Fujifilm Made in Japan media. A few months ago the same wholesale shop had only Fujifilm DVD+R Made in Japan.

At this point I think you can forget about “rumours” - the transition is already happening!

Ack, I didn’t notice I posted this in the Plextor forum; I meant to put it in the Blank Media forum. Hopefully a mod will see it and move it.

#4

Same here in Canada it’s very difficult to find any Fujifilm DVD’s or CDR’s Made in Japan all of it is now MIT.:frowning: Was a lot easier to go to the local store and look for MIJ on the label and know you had TY. Now some people are stuck ordering on line from great distances.:Z Guess it’s cheaper for Fujifilm to use MIT.

It take 5 days to get 100 unbranded Tys 8x for 40.00 + 6.00 shipping from Rima.com. Why is everyone so worried about the availability of Made in Japan media.

#6

Because when Fuji’s TY vanish I have to buy unbranded TY that are a lot more expensive or Plextor TY that are overkill or Verbatim TY that are cheaper but most of the time impossible to get. =) (I’m so selfish hehe)

#7

It’s not so much of a worry it’s was just a lot easier to walk into your nearest Best buy or similar store and pick it up. Sometimes you could get a 100 tub of Fuji TY for $30.00 Canadian. Now people are going into the shops picking up Fuji only to find they got Prodisc or Ritek (their own fault IMO). Don’t believe Rima delivers to Canada but we have blankmedia.ca which is probably the same as Rima.
There is a lot of people in the same predicament as Quikee.
EDIT: That was pretty cool started this response in the Plextor forum and ended up in the Blank media forum.

Speaking of Fujifilm, i’ve just opened a new spindle to find it had the speckling problem. :a I seem to have run into many of these defective spindles in the past 6 months!

But yeah, regarding MIJ Fuji dissapearing, I cleaned out my local BB about a month ago.

#9

Just opened a new 100 tub of Fuji TY. Check this out!

Fuji has some real issues with some of their batches… i’ve had 16 PIF burns… and complete garbage 10+ PIF burns.

Last week I had a batch that had 40+ PIF spikes near the edge of the disc, with unreadable sectors, and oddly enough no speckling.

Luckily BB took it back. :iagree:

edit - oddly enough your 20K PIF batch there has very low jitter. Weird, eh?

#11

Fuji changing suppliers is not news, they do it all the time. The first 4x Fuji was Ricoh and Prodisc. And, in some packaging it’s been Prodisc all along. You’ll see TY again some day probably, it’s all about the cost to Fuji.

#12

It’s all about the money
Money
MOney
MONey
MONEy
MONEY!

Better margins on lower quality media.

Can I be any clearer than that, my monkies?

(what’s the frequency kenneth?)

#13

translation … Fuji sees Prodisc/MIT as their “Ambassador of Kwon” (think of the movie Jerry MacGuire if that didn’t make sense).

#14

just don’t buy non ty fuji’s & when their sale’s go down they might get the message

Fuji switched to DVD-R 8X MIT with Fuji made Oxolife dye over here in Japan. I just saw them at a local store here. The Manufacturer ID is “ProdiscF01”. They seem to be produced on a special Fuji only line at Prodisc and first scan results at some Japanese sites show good but not excellent results (Good but not good enough to replace TY).
Some Pics:

I thought DVD-R 8X MIT with Fuji made dye have FUJIFILM03 MID (usually made by Prodisc ,some by CMC) -“ProdiscF01” dye is common known is not good.

#17

It is not Prodisc dye. It is Fuji original Oxolife dye but MID is ProdiscF01.

Regarding FUJIFILM03 vs. ProdiscF01 an interesting thing is that the only thing that differs between their pre-recorded information in lead-in is the MID:

Looks like the same ,but in burn ability is much different (if read similar thread in this forum)-The only explain about perfomance,is quality control of batches available, which maybe vary a lot.

#20

According to my info:

ProdiscS04 = Prodisc Dye.

ProdiscF01 = Fujifilm dye, same as Fujifilm03, but with Prodisc MID.
