Please bear with me as I'm really not too hot on all the technical stuff with PC's etc.. as you will probably gather after reading this! :o
I aplolgise now for the length of this post, but I've tried to put it as simlpy as I can for explanation.
Basically I own Dell Dimension 8300. The CDRW drive that came with it recently started playing up, so I bought a new Sony 52X CDRW CD rewriter IDE drive off Ebay (all new item and from a trusted seller, etc)
Ok.. so I took the old drive out of the tower and popped the new Sony drive straight in. I turned the PC on, and it seemed to pick up on the new hardwear. However, when I put a blank CD-RW in, to test it, it didn't respond and the 'Roxio Start Easy CD Creator 5 Basic' I have did not pick it up either. On the previous drive it would detect it as the E drive on my PC.
So I did a re-start. The PC took ages longer than normal to load up and I got a screen saying about secondary drives not being detected. Not wanting to mess with anything, I pressed F1 to skip past this. The PC carried on it's very slow load and then, once the wallpaper had loaded, stopped. The desktop did not load correctly. I re-started again, and the same happened.
So now I've pulled the cables out of the new Sony and left it like that so I can use the PC. I've tried looking on the net for the past couple of hours to try to get some information on drivers for this Sony drive, but I'm having no luck at all. I'm too worried about trying drivers for similar named models incase I do damage.
I'm afraid I'm single at the moment, and my mum is not hot in anyway shape or form, so I cant even offer you either of those as thanks... BUT If anyone can advise this frustrated, non-technical, PC ruining person on what to do as far as downloading and installing drivers etc... I'd be eternally grateful!
MANY thanks for reading this and for any help you may be able to offer.
** As an after thought, I should add... I took the cables from the old drive and put them in exactly the same way into the new one. Literally just swapped it over. Dont know if that is relevant, but thought I should add it incase!
