Free Windows Media Center DVD playback codec?

I just tried popping in a dvd to watch on my computer, and the playback was scrambled.

I googled around a bit, and discovered that it was because I needed a dvd decoder plugin for Windows Media Player.

I found some, but I’m not willing to pay for them.

Does anyone know of any FREE plugins that will allow me to watch DVD’s in Windows Media Player?

Which version of WMP are you using. I know from WMP 11 I can play and watch DVD movie.

put it this way…

switch to FREE alternative software that plays just about anything WITHOUT needing additional codecs installed like…

VLC Player (alot of people use this it seems)

or what i personally like… The KMPlayer

You can get both right here, http://filehippo.com/

To the OP…
I think you are looking for k-lite codec pack? Most compliant/competant players should digest the settings transparently.

As mentioned, KMPlayer is great but has occasional hiccups for me with certain encodings (rare)

VLC should play just about everything though it is an old interface

hopefully the k-lite codec pack also works w/ WM11 since it does work w/ older WM

I use all the players mentioned above in my media center PC (+ ZoomPlayer occasionally).
