MakeMKV will rip DVD’s for free, but the output is an MKV file which contains only the main movie. MakeMKV is free while in beta, and has been in beta for years. If your copy ever complains about an expired license, just download and install the latest version. It should be good for ninety days or so, till you have to install again.

DVDFab has a free section, called DVDFab HD Decrypter. It lags behind the paid version in decryption capability, but works with the vast majority of discs. Once the free trial for DVDFab ends, the only part you’ll be able to access will be this free section.
