I have absolutely no idea where to start with this, so here goes…
I want to wipe everything from my laptop and start over with just XP Home. My laptop only came with a Recovery CD, so I’m trying to make a bootable Windows XP disc using this site.
If anyone knows if this is a crap site, or if there’s a better one, that’d be great. I’m having so much trouble finding a decent guide on how to do this. Damn recovery CDs…
But…I’m stuck with the 4th prerequisite, 'Device Drivers.'
I’m not sure if the recovery CD came with the drivers I need, or if I need to download them before I do this, or if I don’t need to worry about it. I kinda have no idea what SATA, IDE and SCSI are either, I’ve been trying to read up on everything but there’s so much information to take in.
Also, my C:\WINDOWS\I386 folder has a grand total of 6,369 files and 157 folders, according to the folder properties. Does that sound right?
First off the recovery cd/dvd contains the factory setups they installed onto that laptop. Where assuming there that recovery cd/dvd is the one that came with the laptop. Once you do a full recovery you must then go to the laptop manufacture and there they usually have a support and or hardware and software drivers and firmware updates on their site. That should be where you want to do first. Reason being laptop are customized computers and have different drivers and software setup.
