"Force" flash fw in a faulty AD-7200A

Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

A friend of mine has an Optiarc AD-7200A that has problem reading and writing anything. I got it and put it in my PC and I saw that the BIOS recognises it, but the string is quit different from the one I expected. Also, windows 7 sees it as a CD Device, and in device manager it is shown as “Optyarc0 DVD0RW QD=7200A0 ATA Device”!!

I though that if I could reflash its fw it will be fine. Unfortunately, neither the NEC win GUI nor the win32 necflash recognises it as a compatible drive to flash it. Is there any way to force the fw flashing?

Thank you…

Instead of trying to flash the drive, simply fix the IDE cable - you may have to use a new one. Could also be possible that one of the pins on either your board or your drive’s IDE connector is not OK
