Hi,
perhaps controller related. What Sata controller is used, and how is it configured in Bios? I guess, the Sata controller is not set to IDE compatible. Such might cause issues, especially with firmware updates.
Not 100% sure which you want…
Silicon Image SiI 3132 SATALink Controller
NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller
There’s 3 settings in Bios for sata controller. Disabled Sata Raid
Mine’s set to Sata, i dont see an Ide compatable setting.

Silicon Image SiI 3132 SATALink Controller[/quote]Onboard or add-on card? Add-on cards should do fine, normally.
NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller There’s 3 settings in Bios for sata controller. Disabled Sata Raid Mine’s set to Sata, i dont see an Ide compatable setting. That’s bad. I would have expected an IDE compatible setting here. Maybe a restriction of your motherboard Bios. In case your drive is connected to the Nvidia Sata controller: You might try to uninstall Nvidia Sata/IDE drivers (run Nvidia installer from control panel/add-remove software to do so) and use MS default drivers.
