I'm a computer programmer and i will be very interested in learning more about the subject.
I'm always doing binary compare between different revision of firmwares and found out some interesting stuff.
For example in the NEC i think that the speed lock is done by simply checking if there's a VIDEO_TS folder on the DVD.
In fact, the speed lock removed firmware has funny names in place of VIDEO_TS inside the firmware.
Any more info on the subject will be greatly appreciated!!!! [/B]
I've found it myself but this is jus a result. Right now you can apply both patches to original FW by finding strings and changing them (don't forget about checksums). But that's all. You need to understand assembler and know many aspects of embedded programming, controlers etc. to really change various aspects in FW, not just change two strings just because somebody else has done it before.
Sorry for straight words (maybe too straight) but I''ve done this myself and I know that it's only simple beginning.
So simply if you can imagine yourself why to change exactly this VIDEO_TS into FASTFAST you can try to go further, but if not you'll just waste your time. :iagree:
