Ok. I have a ND3520 here. I see that NEC has officially released the new firmware which adds -DL support. So has it been modified yet by Liggy or Dee? I have not updated the firmware yet so it still has the firmware that it shipped with. I would like firmware that will give me the -DL support and that also gives the ND3520 compatibility with more media. I have some DVD-RWs (Khypermedia) and my MD3520 has a hard time reading them. Thanks for any help.
Try v1.UC or v1.UD from Liggy/Dee. Just make a DUMP of your original firmware in case you need to roll back.
Does it include the new -DL compatibility? Thanks again.
do you have some -R DL discs to worry about? if not…
1.UA is based on standard 3.04 with -R DL support
1.UB is also based on 3.04 with -R DL support plus SL bitsetting
1.UC again based on 3.04 with -R DL support, bitsetting and DL speedups
What about 1.UD?
I have a Shuttle XPC. The ND3520 is my only optical drive and I don’t have a floppy drive either. Right now, my hard drive is clean and I don’t have Windows installed yet. Is there any way to flash my ND3520 with 1.UD?
dee27, i think in future it would be nice if you could indicate your f/w is based on which orig f/w for easy reference. i hope it is not something ‘inappropriate’ to indicate
They always are in MINI FAQ in the first post in our firmware thread.
1.UD is also based on NEC 3.04
Dee-27 I never noticed before. But how did you manage to get 7 ROM drives into 2 PC’s? Or are you using external firewire cases?
As an example, just take a look at OC-Freak’s PC.
( BTW, I have currently 7 optical devices on my PC… 4 IDE internal, two USB2 and one Firewire external. )
On PC1 i have 2 maxtor hard drives on a SATA raid controller. configured as RAID 0

Ok since I have only one optical drive (ND3520), no floppy drive, no OS installed, is there any way to flash the firmware of my ND3520 without putting it in another PC?
no OS installed ? Make a bootable DOS CD… and flash from DOS. =)
Just for curiosity… why do you want to do that?
Installing first an OS, setting up the PC and finally begin to use the drive and install the firmware upgrade (maybe 1.UE at that time ) sound more logical to me… or is it an academic challenge?
Is that still do-able since my only optical drive is the ND3520?
Well… if your Nec 3520 is functioning properly yes… however the boot CD should copy all files to a RAM Drive after booting. I think that a proper boot CD should do this. However I never ever tried to flash in this way. =)
Yeah sounds dangerous now that I think about it. Well I went ahead and installed Windows. Now how do I check my firmware version without installing any utility for it (like the Nero app.)? I searched the NEC forums, but couldn’t find anything.
