After ripping the movie Firewall to my computer with DVDFab, I noticed that most of the extra features are missing the audio streams. I was able to use the old standby…DVD Decrypter, and the audio streams were there. This seems like a bug that needs fixing.
Which Fab program are you using?
Sorry…DVDFab Decrypter 220.127.116.11
I have the same problem with the last 2 movies I’ve ripped (Firewall, and Taking Lives). I’m using DVD Fab Decrypter, v18.104.22.168. The main movie and title menus have the audio tracks, but all extra features are silent. The strange thing is, after ripping them to my hard drive, if I play the files directly from the hard drive, the audio tracks are there and play normally. However, if I open them in either DVD Shrink or Nero Recode, the audio for the extra features are gone, and therefore are also gone from from the finished DVD.
I’ve been using DVD Fab Decrypt for several weeks, and all the previous movies I’ve copied have not had this problem. Any suggestions on the cause?
Here is a forum that provides a lot of information on DVDFab Decrypter:
You definitly described the exact same issues I have, including the issue playing fine from hard drive but streams missing in shrink and nero. I’ve been using DVDFab for quite a few versions and this is the first I’ve seen of this problem. I was however able to use DVD Decrypter 22.214.171.124 and then everything worked fine in shrink. I am just hoping that this is just a bug or new encryption that fengtao can fix in his next update.
I’ve read thru that forum and there is nothing there that describes this issue. This is the only place I know to let fengtao know of any new issues with his software.
Just for the heck of it, I used my backed-up dvd for Taking Lives (the one with the sound problem) and ran it through DVD Decrypter. The log file for the run is below. Notice that there are 8 “Pack Header not found” entries. I suspect that is the source of the problem, and maybe it will give some of you gurus an inkling of what is causing it.

It definitly sounds to me that DVDFab is messing something up. Unfortunately I’m not enough of a guru to know exactly what or why. You should be able to rip those two movies from the originals with DVD Decrypter 188.8.131.52 and get the extra features sound, I did. Hopfully the DVDFab guys will fix it.
Unfortunately, I don’t have the originals of these two movies to try to run again for comparison purposes, but I did try a couple of others (Shrek 2, and Star Wars IV) with Fab 2979, and they came up with the extra audio files intact in Shrink, so now I’m not convinced the problem is with Fab. I’m just totally confused as to why the audio will play OK from the HD, but not show up in Shrink or Recode.
not that this info helps, but I had the same exact problem with Firewall as well. Did dvddecrypter w/shrink and audio was missing from extras only. rest of movie was ok.
do you mean DVDFab Decrypter?
yea sorry, was out of it yesterday.
I did DVDFab decrypter version 184.108.40.206 with shrink 220.127.116.11 (i think that’s the right version number).
I will try using DVDFab express complete movie mode on this movie and see if I get the same results.
I’ve run into the same problem backing up Syriana. Been searching for some explaination. Ripped it with DVDFab Decrypter, 18.104.22.168, finished successfully. Checked the ripped files with Power DVD before going on to VOBblanker as I usually do. I found the preview and extras had no audio. Reripped it and tried again with the same result. I tried playing the files with Nero Show Time and the audio worked, but not with Power DVD … interesting. Shrink shows no audio tracks for those sections and Recode shows AC3 but with a file size of 0. Continued to run it through Recode, the resulting files had no audio on either player. Did The Hills Have Eyes with Fab just before and it worked fine. Even tried uninstalling DVDFab and doiing a clean install … same. Ended up ripping it with DVD Decrypter, 22.214.171.124, everything work fine and backed up ok.
Haven’t found and explaination anywhere. Is there a bug in DVDFab? Something up with some DVDs? It doesn’t seem to be the same title either.
This seems to be a problem only with some movies not all. Which means it could be a bug or something just a little different in the encryption. Email the .ifo files from the original DVD and the DVDFab rip.
A recommended way is listed below:
- Open an Explorer window, and navigate to VIDEO_TS folder of the DVD.
- Copy all files ending with .IFO to hard disk.
- ZIP the IFO files on hard disk to one file. Name it with a readable
filename, like Syriana_UK.zip.
- Send the zip file to email@example.com
Please try DVDFab Decrypter 126.96.36.199 to see the result.
Ripped the same copy of Syriana with version 188.8.131.52 with no trouble at all. Audio worked perfect. Worked like a charm. Thanks for the quick update and a great program.
I’m glad to hear the good news
