Seems like familiar ground, here.
Fedora 9, Nero Linux 4.
Replaced old CDROM with new DVDRW...
ASUS model DRW-2014L1
Tried to do all the basic, obvious things...
i) checked permissions of /dev/sg*
ii) checked permissions of /dev/sr0
iii) checked permissions of /dev/scd0
iv) checked permissions of /dev/cdrom
v) verified kernel modules loaded
sg, scsi_mod, sr_mod, loop installed
vi) these kernel modules not installed
iso9660, ide-scsi, ide-cd
vii) dmesg | grep CD
scsi 1:0:0:0: CD-ROM ASUS DRW-2014L1 1.01 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20
sr 1:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0
viii) update /etc/udev/rules.d to add
89-own.rules as suggested in this
posting, where I am in "disk" group -
Summary: Nero Linux 4 "sees the drive" but
can do nothing useful with it - CD, DVD,
regular user or root, "the drive is always
empty" - brand new so don't think damaged
Assume I need different driver or some
config setting - can someone please
suggest several things to try or check,
