I’m currently using Office Depot DL’s, (which burn @ 2.4x and never really had a problem with); and I’ve just started using Philips DL’s (burn up to 8x) as well. The Philips I’ve only burned 2 discs with so far, but 1 of them doesn’t play (not correctly anyway) so I’m a bit concerned. I have heard Verbatim is about the best around, but even the best deal I’ve found for them…well I’m not willing to shell out quite that much. The Philips had good reviews and they have blank white printable tops. I guess I’ll try burning at a lower speed.
Keep an eye out for the sales on the verb DLs. A good place to check is the cdfreaks bargain basement thread.
I bought five - 50 pk spindles of MKM 001 (MIS) last year at Sam’s Club for around $52 each…roughly a buck a piece.
These are the +R DL 2.4-4X verbs made in Singapore which are the best DL media, bar none…JMO. The MKM 003 (8-10X) are good though and I get great results burning at 8X on my samsung 203B.
Myself, I prefer Img hands down, but you will have to select the LB on DL burns. This is simple process since Img populates the selections and gives you the option of previewing the LB.
Unlike Jimbo, I have never had an issue with the LB with Img.
VSO has almost always performed well for me, but there have been some glitches since last summer and to be honest, their support stinks.
I found their last rep to be arrogant, dismissive and unwilling to shoulder any responsibilty despite the plethora of complaints since last summer.
He was worse than no help at all…just plain pissed me off.
Since then, we have had many users with burn problems, switch to Img and for the most part, they had complete resolution to their problems.
Img is much more configurable, never fails me and gives me much more control. I currently use about 5 burners and various media. Img, once configured, precisely remembers specific burners, burn speeds and media…no matter what.
It has outstanding support from LUK!..its developer
