Dear God, I can’t believe what kind of world we’re living in. Is there no privacy left? It’s getting so bad that I think I should start showering with my clothes on. I’m genuinely concerned that the American government is turning into a dictatorship of sorts with their own secret police. Thank GOD I live in Canada. Our government isn’t perfect, but at least I know I can rip a purchased movie to my HTPC, make a phone call, or be out late at night without having a government thug bother me or invade my privacy. American citizens need to speak up before the rest of the world won’t touch you with a 10 foot wooden po…

Umm don’t they need a warrant for that?

As for Canada. I’m also Canadian. I think the Harper government is leading us down the same road. Pretty soon it will be illegal to move your purchased movie to you htpc, because the dvd/bluray has copy protection on it. While making a backup isn’t illegal, breaking a digital lock will be.

On the up side. Our police force is already stretched to thing. Harper hasn’t really thought any of this out. So while we’ll have more draconian laws, we won’t have the institutions to enforce them.

It does seem insane though. I guess its the downside of the internet. Everyone is communcating through it… any easy target for the fbi.

Plainly, you are not actually from Canada or are so poorly informed about what’s going on in Canada that it doesn’t matter if you are or not. Have a look at Bill C-30. It was simply an internet surveillance bill until the government realized that it wouldn’t fly under that name so they changed it to imply that it was to (and I love how this is used to justify everything these days) “protect the children”. Yes, Vic stood up in parliament and told us citizens of Canad that we either stand with him on this bill or we stand with the child pornographers. That made a great selling point with those who had suffered from abuse when they were kids and were trying to keep under the radar so they wouldn’t be abused again. Amazingly, it does mention children but only in the first paragraph or two then it moves on to allowing any agent the government chooses to inspect and monitor the ISP records for any person.

Yes, Canada is on the verge of becoming the same totalitarian government that most modern “democracies” are.

I could tell you that it’s so that we can all live up to Agenda 21 in the future but that a different conspiracy theory.

Why, yes, Mr. 2 Posts, I am from Canada.

I am aware of Bill C-30 and the Canadian Government’s attemp to placate the American government’s need to control everyone’s bowel movements. It keeps getting shot down, and if a version of it does become law I have doubts whether there’s sufficient manpower to enforce it.
