I am trying to decrease the time it takes to decode DVDs in general before transcoding with DVD2one or burning directly. I used to get a general range between 3 and 5x with my older Samsung DVD combo drive. I have just picked up a new Samsung combo drive SM-352 (DVD 16x read) and am getting either the same read rate or slightly better at around 8x average:(. I have read some posts here from folks who have attained a mucher higher read rate, I believe close to 16x. Should I be looking at a better DVD-R drive?
My quick specs:
Intel P4 2.6 HT, 512, ATI 7500 64, (2) WD EIDE 160s, Samsung SM 352 DVD-R Combo, Sony DRU-510A Burner with firmware updates to 4x, XP SP-1, DVD Decrypter v220.127.116.11, DVD2one, Nero v6.0.
