A new sophisticated scam uses malware to show a fake Windows Update process that fails stating the license key is invalid. Victims have to pay $250 to ‘activate’ their Windows version again.

I’ll bet this malware could be removed using a bootable CD or flash drive. So, if you get any activation screens, the first thing you should do is a malware scan, preferably with a bootable disc, since bootable discs are more likely to find those nasty root kits.
