Welcome to the forum

I’ll move this thread to the main Blank Media forum, as the Blank DVD Tests forum is for test results only, not discussion.

Edit: Done.

Check around the hub of the disc (centre) for a code that goes like this: GGxxxxxx (where the x’s are numbers). If it’s there, the discs are genuine.

thanks, but alas i read about that and it also said to look at the opposing 5 numbers, but there are only 4 and i also asked because of the coasters and i read on another forum that what i had is in fact a fake. but that is one person.

Post the numbers/code that you see around the hub and we’ll tell you if they’re fakes or not.

We can’t say much one way or the other until you do that. The info posted above doesn’t tell us anything about whether they’re genuine.

With the info you provide, no one on earth can tell you if this is fake media or not. :disagree: (though the fact that you bought them in a 50-discs pack sounds suspect to me, but maybe this is normal in some parts of the world - here we have only 100-discs packs for unbranded TY).

As Arachne explains, only the presence or absence of the GG/B code allows definitive identification. :iagree:

They sound fake. TY can have bad burns at times, but out right coasters usually is a sign of fake media.

As everyone has said, somewhere on the hub the serial number says “GG…”. If it does not start with GG… then you most likely have a fake.

hmmmm it does start with gg
although backwards and they look funny,
its gg000153

0902- very small letters opposite

why couldnt they easily be able to counterfiet the numbers

anddddd can’t you tell from the 00000000 00 6C 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 87 0D 10 .l…@…R…

isnt that the whole point of a cmd-media code?

Genuine TY.

why couldnt they easily be able to counterfiet the numbers
They don’t need to. Too much work for no real edge. If you’re going to sell “fake” anything, you don’t really care of post-buying identification…

So it’s a very bad batch of genuine TYG02 then. :frowning:
Scarse, but not really isolated.

Unless your burner is to blame  (I don’t know this model in the least BTW). Does it burn other media properly?

Hi coderedmase, welcome to CDFreaks!

GG000153 is a genuine Taiyo Yuden code.

“They” could but there are no reported cases of this happening so far.

As Franck and Drage said, genuine TY.

The point of a media code, amongst other things, is to tell the burner which write strategy to use from what’s stored in its firmware. It is not a surefire way of telling a fake from the real thing.
