Failure to play aftere burning with Fab 5

I tried to backup a copy Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark. It appears to copy ok but will not play on Pioneer dvd player. I have recorded maybe 12 dvd’s using Fab5 Platinum with no problems. I did recieve a message about installing a program prior to copying the movie. I clicked ok but it said there was a problem. Movie played ok in my laptop but did not copy. What could be the problem. I did try diffrent media but with the same result:bow:

Tell us more about this message about installing a program. I am not clear about something in your post: did the copied disc play in your laptop OK, just not in the Pioneer. or not at all in anything?

#1 rule when doing DVD movie backups never install a program that is on the disc especially a Sony DVD  you never know what will be added to your registry :frowning: even if it is a medis player extra data maybe installed secretly

The program was for viewing enhancments it said. it was on the Indiana Jones temple Of Doom dvd. I tried again and actually was able to burn a backup.

When I tried to backup Gettysburg I got an immediate “failure to burn” notice when I put a blank dvd in. I trid a couple of more times with no luck. I keep getting the failure to burn notice as soon as I put the DVD in the burner. What could be wrong?

I’m sorry, the title of my posts should be “Failure to Burn”.That is the error message I get when trying to burn Gettysburg along with,I think “code105” That came up the first time.
Should I get a additional shrinking program or is Fab5 really not need this?

Can you post the burn log of the failed burn, it will contain info that may help pin point the problem of your issue.

The location of the log is in Documents/DVDFab/Log

I will post the log when I get home…hopefully it will help!

Ok! Here is the log. I tried again with no luck!!!

I am using a DVD-r 4.7 gb. It should work …right?

As I am reading thgis error log, it says that the file is too big to fit on a 4.7 gb disk. Is there a way to compress it more in Fab5???I assumed that it would automatically shrink it to fit on a 4.7 gb disk when you do just the main movie mode.

You must have the free version which does not compress. Have to get the paid version to do that or use DVD Shrink to do it.

Posts #67 to #74, but please also read Post #78.

No, the freeware version will not apply compression. Selection of main movie will reduce the Source file size, but no compression will be applied.
In other words, when using the freeware app, if the Source file is larger than 4482 MB or so, it won’t fit on an SL disc…regardless.
(I wouldn’t try to burn beyond 4460-4470 MB even with top quality media).

As above, Mike and Beef have given you the answer.
When posting, please include, not only the version (it’s in your burn log) but also the application you’re using (not in your burn log).

We’re still assuming you have the freeware app. It still could be that you’re using a retail app and have it configured incorrectly.

The devil’s in the details…

How is that I can convert other dvd’s to fit a DVD-r. I thought it did do compression. So let me get this right. When I pay for it, it will automatically compress the files? From what i understood, it would do all that the paid version did but for 30 days.
(I am new so forgive me if this is a stupid question.

My DVDFAb quit burning movies successfully…I’ve burned at least 50 movies with v5.1.2.0 and they all worked great but now it burns the movie but the movie won’t play.

My Pioneer DVD player just locks up… my 360 reads it as a “Mixed Media Disc” and my PC won’t even recognize the DVD.

I re-formatted my hard drives then re-installed Windows XP Pro and I still have the same problem.

If I rip the DVD to my hard drive first with DVD Decrypter then burn it to DVD with DVD Shrink 3.2 it works fine…it just takes forever.

Are including the xml file that DVDFab can create for Windows Media Center ? … check the setting in common settings --> DVD to DVD

It’s unchecked…but I don’t think it was ever checked because I don’t have XP Media Center and I don’t remember ever checking it before.

What is the title that is on the problematic disc ? also are you able to access it using windows explorer ?

A bunch of movies…Planet Terror, Step Brothers, Bank Job, Gladiator, Semi-Pro, Tropic Thunder, etc… I haven’t been able to play a DVD successfully since This problem first started.

Windows Explorer won’t let me access the DVD…it says “please insert a disc”

With all those movie titles on the disc means you didn’t use dvdfab to create the disc, which this DVDFab forum is for issues related to DVDFab products

I used DVDFab…the DVD I’m trying to burn now is Planet Terror.
