Failure to burn

Greetings all,

I have a Samsung SH-S202N cd/dvd burner http://www.samsung.com/ae/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=computersperipherals&type=opticdiskdrives&subtype=dvd_w&model_cd=SH-S202N/BSBN

It started off having no problems with cd’s and dvd’s (using Nero Recode and dvd43) but now it doesn’t finish any projects.

The problems are with all dvd’s, lately I’ve been using Verbatim but I use to use memorex with some success, mostly failure. I’ve had zero success with any Verbatim

I’m sorry for asking a question most likely asked a thousand times

Thanks for taking the time to help a newbie

David

Perhaps you could post a log file of one of your failed burns. This post shows how to find your log file and what one looks like: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=57213

I have found the log files, and they are quite lengthy. I’m afraid to send something that might jeopordize the security of my computer, so what shouldn’t I send with the log files?

Thanks

You have a medium error in there…which is usually caused by poor media. Unfortunately what we normally recommend is using Verbatim or Sony disks to solve this, since they are consistent blank media.

Try burning something with another burning program. I suggest doing a data burn with ImgBurn, which is a free burning program. Burn at 8x.

If that works ok, try saving the output from Nero Recode instead of burning straight to a disk. Then try burning this with ImgBurn. Are you shrinking dvds, or converting to Nero Digital using Nero Recode?

If you are burning dvd video files, follow this guide for ImgBurn: http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=4632
If it is another format, just burn as data files.

I really want to thank you for continuing to help me out. ImgBurn seems ok, but I noticed near the end of the set up, where I’m supposed to “calculate” it seems to do a quick flash, not like the illustration which shows 98% with a green bar.

Also, during the: Then sit back and relax whilst your Disc is burning. section, I get 2% buffer, and then 52% then 100% complete. No full buffer and 0% device buffer.

Disks are not playable as of this time. Suggestions?

Oh, I was using Nero Recode but not sure whats happening with that now. Yes, I disabled dvd43 for this.

Thanks again,

David

Calculate just checks to see if the compilation will fit onto your target dvd. But it should show the amount on the line in green.

Not sure I understand your description of the buffer…is it completely losing buffer and having to slow down or stop to refill it?

A log file from ImgBurn might help also, but this is a little puzzling at the moment. Open ImgBurn, click on Help, then click on the log file.

The Nero log file shows DMA is on for the drive, else I’d have you check that.

I believe I tried to burn twice, here’s the log file on both:

Whatever you ‘think’ you’re burning isn’t actually being burnt.

Reset ImgBurn’s Build mode options back to default (via the ‘Options’ tab) and then try again. Oh and make sure the folders you’re adding actually have stuff in them!

Sadly I must ask, just how do I place stuff in the folder?

Thank you for input, I’m sure this is so pathetically simple, but its kind of new to me.

David

There are guides in the following link, if what you are looking for is not there, post back.

apparently, IMGBurn is not for me? Same failure

What exactly are you adding to the ‘Source’ box?

It’s a folder (or two), yeah?

Does that folder have files in it?

If it does, they’re being ignored by ImgBurn due to the way you’ve configured it… that’s where resetting back to the default values comes in.
