Failing to copy protected Judaica2

Hi all.

I’m new to this forum, and hope I won’t make a fool out of myself w/ dumb questions…

I’m having difficult time to identify the protection on a program-cd I have, called Otzrot Israel ver. 2 (or Judaica 2). I’ve the original CD, and want to make a copy so I can use it in my laptop too, w/o moving the CD all the time from here to there.

First, I’ve tried simple Disc-Copy w/ Nero. I got some read-errors during reading the source CD, but the copy was done successfully.

But then, when I launched the program w/ the copied CD, I got a message - ‘Please use the original CD’ and such.

Then I started working, reading many many posts over here… and got into business.

Started scaning the original CD with A-Ray, no results came up (Even though an earlier ver. of the similar program detected SafeDisc 2.4)

Tried ClonyXXL - finish up with nothing. (Wierd thing is, because of ClonyXXL message - I’ve installed ASPI driver, and since then - ClonyXXL itself can’t even recognize the CD type that in the drive. I’ll have to open another thread about that problem, probablly. NM)

Tried ProtectionID - and with the Scan CD/DVD Drive (File) got no results, not even a message on a clean disc in the log window, which I find very strange. The Scan CD/DVD (Sector), on the other hand, came up with this message:

Init cd/dvd sector scan for Drive E
[h] Heuristic Scan Indicates disk is possibly protected…
-> Protection : None/Unknown
[!] Disc appears to have no protection or is using an unknown protection

 • Scan Took : 0.328 Second(s)

Moved on to BurnOut, and the only message I got here was:
could be CD/DVD-check

Now, I donno how can I move on from here. How can I be sure which protection I got on this CD, and how can I break it?
Any ideas?

TY in advance.

Hallo Cheetah64d and welcome to the forums.

Would you please also scan the installation directory on your hard disk with ProtectionID ?

No problem, here are the results:

Hope this helps in some way…

i noticed from the scanning logs that u used an outdated pid version, grab the latest v6.2.3 and try scanning again. this version includes heuristic checks, so if a file is i.e. safedisc wrapped, i´ll notice it from the logs.

Init cd/dvd sector scan for Drive E
[h] Heuristic Scan Indicates disk is possibly protected…
-> Protection : None/Unknown
[!] Disc appears to have no protection or is using an unknown protection

 • Scan Took : 0.328 Second(s)

try again with the latest version, the cd/dvd stuff got improved.
if it is safedisc, pid will 100% notice it when performing a sector scan.
i noticed from the scanning logs that u used an outdated pid version, grab the latest v6.2.3 and try scanning again.
Well, actually - This IS v6.2.3, so maybe there’s another way to include the Heuristic check?

Any ideas? Anyone?

Maybe anthor ‘scan’ program that would identify the protection?
I got some read-errors during reading the source CD, but the copy was done successfully.
Where did those errors occur (Sector x…y)?

Would you please post an image of the error message window ?
Someone might recognize the protection by its look.

Have you tried to scan the main exe (probably: C:\Program Files\JUDAICA2-Vista\JUDAICA.EXE) with BurnOut?

if ProtectionID doesn´t pick it up, chances for burnout are very slim to none…

as for scanning JUDAICA.EXE, the log from the pid output shows that this file has no heuristics. if the file is protected somehow with a commercial wrapper, it would show heuristics.

Init cd/dvd sector scan for Drive E
[h] Heuristic Scan Indicates disk is possibly protected…

my bet is on a custom implemented copy protection…

Unfortunately, I don’t have the disc right now, so I don’t know exactly where the bad sectors are.
As soon as I’ll get the disc back (prob. next week) - I’ll try to figure it out. BTW - how can I know that? only by tring burning it again?

Yep. Same result as the disc - "could be CD/DVD-check". No help over there…
And, what does THAT means? No chance to break it up?

Oh, BTW - it may be important -
I have this exact program, just in an earlier version, which working only on WinXP, not on Vista.
When scanning this version files on the HD with PID - I got this message:

"Scanning -> C:\Program Files\JUDAICA2\JUDAICA.EXE
File Type : Exe, Size : 1409024 (0158000h) Byte(s)

[!] DONGLE - HASP Hardware Lock references detected !
- Scan Took : 0.812 Second(s)"

Which actually is kind of wierd, because I remmeber using the software w/o any Dongle attached…

I recommend to install the free edition of Alcohol 52% and try to create a working DVD image - if possible at all.
It’s much more qualified than nero for protected data discs, and creates a log file where the erroneous sectors are listed.

Well, sorry for the late replay, but I culdn’t login until now (and still experiance some problems…)

Anyway, Terramex, here is the log file I got from Alcohol.
As you can see - the bad sectors are from 2218 to 2221. Hope this help in some manner…
(And BTW - I’d tried to load the images with Deamon Tools -No success, of course…)

Any help will be appriciated.

im having the same problem
did u suceed in solving it?

HI just want to run some idea past you for this problem. i have been using ANYDVD HD and have not so far had any problems copying my cd’s or DVD’s. ANYDVD removes all the protection from DVD’s and CD’S unless your trying to copy a game. dont know if this will help. but seeing that you have been trying so hard to make a copy. why not try it out.
There’s a trial version of AnyDVD. GOOD LUCK.
