I just posted the article FADE to Deter Pirates.

Robbie used our newssubmit to tell us about another try of preventing us from making backups. Here the game will function not as it should.

This (as all copy protections) relies on the fact that the program can recognise fake vs. real copies. If you make a 1:1 copy it will still be useless. Just a bit annoying you don’t know straight away.

Codemasters tryd hard to not let there games beeinged copyd. But they foget there are a lot of smart people out on the net who like a good challenge,so it probely will be cracked.

If a pirated CD is identified, the game begins to disable important features and instigates subtle changes that hamper the otherwise smooth experience. Maybe its not a fake and its the program! :r

Sounds like similar technology that Microsoft uses in their operating systems!

Used since the days of DOS and Windows 3.1? Sure if Windwos 3.1 was around back in the good old days of the Atari 8-bit. There was a game I used to play called Alternate Reality (I think, it’s been ages) but on a copied version of the game, the player would always die of scurvy. (what pirates died of)
