Extremely slow disc recognition on 716A

I’m not sure if this is standard or not, but it seems like my PX-716A has extremely slow recognition times. It takes roughly 20-30 seconds to recognize a full DVD+R disc. I have tested this on burns with Verbatim 8X DVD+Rs and all the discs take a long time to initialize. I also tested some retail DVD discs I had and those took around 10-20 seconds. Is this normal?

The drive is set to UDMA4 and I am using an 80-conductor IDE cable.

I think it’s normal, my drives does the same, like yours.
Pressed dvds are a little bit faster, i would worry about, when the
drive doesn’t recognize the dvds or cds!

Plexes unfortunately always had slow DVD recognition times.

#4

Yeah, PX-716A is a bit slow at that department. My old PX-708A is even faster.

#5

mine detects right after you insert it (its an option in its hardware which is switchable)

#6

Err, how do it turn it on? The instant recognition, that is.

dragger seems to do some elaborate work. Just see his thread there: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=138262
