Extracting (dumping) firmware from Pioneer DVD Drives

I am wondering if it’s possible to extract the firmware from my Pioneer DVD-116. (no matter how hard it is to do it).

I’ve googled around and have only found “no” as an answer in the past.

Does anyone know if there’s now a firmware dumping-capable tool for Pio drives (and if not, I wonder why not)?

Many thanks for your information and help.

The hard way is to unsolder the flash rom and read it in an external flash device. Is there anything special about the firmware of your drive that Pioneer has not released yet ?

Yes there is…although I have an engineer friend who may work out another method in the meantime.

But thanks VERY much for that piece of info. I would be willing to go this far if necessary.
