External PX-760A and Scanning for C1/C2?

I have a Plextor PX-760A (fw 1.06) in an external enclosure (based on Prolific PL-3507) and I’m trying to perform CD-R quality scanning with PlexTools, but I haven’t been able to get it to work. I get an error immediately when the test starts when connected by USB (pic below) and just a hang when connected by FireWire.

With the same setup I can perform DVD quality scans and I can perform FE/TE tests on blank CD-R media.

For anyone with a PX-760A connected externally can you confirm or deny whether C1/C2 scanning is working for you?

Using PlexTools 2.35 in case it matters, and original command protected 1.06 firmware (not “free your Plextor firmware”).

I dimly remember getting this exact error with an internal 712. As it turned out the Intel IDE drivers where the cause. Are there any special USB/Firewire drivers installed?

Also is the Prolific firmware up to date? See:

No such special drivers. Completely standard Microsoft Windows XP drivers for IDE, USB and FireWire.

Yep, flashed to the latest one.

More information:

I cannot get the C1/C2 test to work at 10-24x or 8x speed, but it works at 4x speed!
I can burn and read CDs at maximum speed however.

My PX-712A is in another enclosure (based on an older Prolific chip) and it performs C1/C2 scans without any problem at all.

I’ll try with Plextools XL 3.12 and my external 760 (NEC chipset) when I get home later today.

Thanks!

Worked for me.

Thanks for testing! :flower:

Unfortunately I’m still scratching my head over this.

What about upgrading to 2.36?
I know it won’t help… Just wanted to tell you :flower:

Exactly the same behaviour with 2.36 - scanning works at 4x but not at the higher speeds.
