All right. It seems your motherboard is certainly new enough to support usb 2.0. I'm hoping your operating system is up to date too.
Your computer has two SATA ports and two IDE channels so I'm pretty sure that your current dvd drive is using an IDE interface.
Choices for an IDE burner include this Sony/Optiarc at mwave.com: http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=AA73212
this Pioneer 216 at Newegg.com: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827129023 (this also comes in beige)
And there are several others you can look at. I'm not sure where you are located though, and these two online shops only ship to the US. There is a Newegg for Canada, and Ncix.com is another Canadian shop worth looking at.
An external drive would certainly work, though they tend to be slightly more expensive. Like this Lite-On: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106283
