Exterior DVD

I have hooked up an exterior drive , a Samsung S 243, as I found it in my garage. Does not seem to be as efficient as the built in drives, i.e., takes a long time to recognize disks, sometimes does’nt at all, tried a Lite-on Iahs 524A same thing, are dvd’s hooked up to a Sata adapter as reliable as the drives internally connected?

Sata adapters are notoriously finicky. What adapter are you using and how is it connected?

Hi Dean, I am just using a standard IDE/Sata adapter to a Usb port, with an power supply.

those adaptors usually using power supply with 2Amps or 2.1 … and some writers need more power to function well
