When I was using DVD -R discs my drive would frequently not recognize that there was blank media in the drive. I would have to reboot (sometimes several times) before I was able to burn the disc. Once I got it to recognize the blank disc I was burning at about a 98% success rate. The discs were Benq 4X DVD-R.

Someone suggested I try DVD+R discs to see if it solved my reboot issue.

I am now using Benq 8X DVD+R blank discs.

I am happy to say that my drive recognizes my blank DVD+Rs no trouble now. But I am now not able to burn successfully.

  1. I am not running any other applications, nor using the computer while it is burning. Although with the DVD-R discs I had no trouble browsing the web etc while it burned.

  2. My flashware is now B7W9 (it was B7V9). Still get the same errors.

  3. I have tried ripping the Video files to my HD and then burning the DVD later with Nero. I get the same errors.

  4. My computer is Spyware free.

  5. My drive has not been defragged in a while, however, I was able to burn DVD-Rs no trouble yesterday. It is unlikely that the drive fragmentation is the source of these errors.

  6. Sometimes it fails right away (within the first minute or so) and other times it gets to 80%+ and fails.

  7. I have tried burning at 4X, 8X, and 16X. I get the same error regardless.

Do I need to have a System ASPI layer installed, or is the NERO ASPI sufficient.

I used the Nero Info Tool and it shows that I do not have a System ASPI layer but I do have Nero ASPI layer (WNASPI32.DLL Version 2.0.1.74 October 26, 2004).

My Nero version is 6.6.0.16.

I have 9 coasters in a row without 1 successful burn.

was the antivirus resident protection disabled when you burned that? its always good to have it disabled while burning as it scans each file while the burning software attempts to burn it and in alot of cases it makes the burn fail , the files you attempted to burn were they on the quantum or fujistu? your fujistu have only 512kb buffer and a high 17.4ms access time and its possible it caused to burn to fail if thats the case then try to burn again but from the quantum , your cpu is Pentium III 550MHz or better? (benq 1620 system requirement) , its still possible the media at fault i suggest youll get quality media taiyo yuden/verbatim , defrag is still a good idea even if it did work a day before sometimes things stop working a day after ,89mb free ram isnt much but should be good enough to get the job done anyway i suggest youll get more ram

#3
  1. I do not have a resident antivirus program running on my computer.

  2. I believe it was from the Fujitsu … however I know for a fact I have been able to burn from both using the DVD-R discs.

  3. My computer meets Benq’s minimum reqs.

  4. More RAM is always good … again I had no troubles with the DVD-R discs.

#4

I suspect it is your media. BENQ is not high quality media. Try some Verbatim and see if you have the same problem.

It would seem the first error creates the second two. There is no set cure to these ills. You can try Upgrading Nero, playing with device/channel setup, installing Adaptec ASPI (but not 4.7 use 4.6) changing media, it wont hurt to try. Before all that I would suggest:

Book Type set to: DVD-ROM
Dont Bit set the disc. See if that helps. If it fails post the new error log.

#6

Ok I took your advice and tried a different media type …

I had a few Staples Brand DVD+R 4X discs at work so I brought them home. Don’t laugh … I know you said “Try Good Quality Media”, but I did not have time to stop at Future Shop on my way home.

I slapped the disc in my drive, loaded up Nero and burnt no problems at all.

So here is my next question:

Does this have anything to do with the fact that the discs I am having problems with are 8X?

Also, when I use Nero Info Tool it shows these discs as being up to 16X write compatible.

When I use nero to burn a DVD-Video I select the Burn tab and change Burn Speed from max to 4X. I hit New. It then takes me to where I load my Video Files. I hit the Burn Icon. It then brings me back to the Burn Tab and I have to change the write speed from Max to 4X again. I hit Burn and away it goes.

While it is burning it says it is doing so at 4X.

Am I missing a setting? Are 8X discs just crap?

#7

Unlikely. Its probably more to do with the fact they’re made by a low class Manufacturer. Download this. Post back the MID’s of the 8x and the 4x. We’ll be able to tell you more then.

  • Shitty Media
  • Also Shitty Media
Problem solved: Throw both of these lots away, and only buy Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim TDK or any other brand thats recommended on this forum.

Try Max Data 8x DVD-R Media that is what i use and have no trouble at all

Ok I took your advice and bought some different DVDs. Future Shop did not carry any of the brands you mentioned, and they would only give me a credit for my crap discs …

So I bought Memorex 16X DVD+Rs. I have now burnt 5 DVDs in a row with no troubles at all. Thank you all for your advice.

BTW … Here is the ID. Are these any good?:
