I have a NEC DVD±RW ND-3450A that’s giving me this error:

First of all, remove your Nero serials.
Second, please tell us what disc did you use, and why do you burn at 2.4x?

OPTODISCR016…I’d say change your media.

If 2.4x is the only speed offered by Nero, then the mediacode probably isn’t supported in the drive’s firmware.

Modded firmware should be available, but it will void your warranty:

Liggy & Dee’s NEC Firmware Page.

You can get official NEC firmware here, if you’d rather use that.

I’m using a 16x -R, can’t remember the manufacturer ( not home right now).
I tried 2.4x, since it failed at the top speed, which I think is 4x.

So are you saying there may be an NEC update that would allow me to burn this disk ?

thanks,

If the top speed allowed by Nero is 4x, it’s got to be a firmware thing.

As I said, have a look at the sites I linked to (the official NEC site or, if you like modified firmware, Liggy & Dee’s site)…search on there for your burner model, there might be newer firmware.

Edit: you can get the 1.03 firmware here. As always, take care when flashing your drive - don’t leave a disc in there, and make sure you have as little running as possible.

I just want to burn some DVDs asap.

Are you saying there’s a limited selection of dvds that I can burn on this drive?
If so, where do I find this list?

I thought media was downward compatible, ie, a 16x could be burned @ 2x ?

Any info is appreciated.

thanks,

The “safe” option, which is supported in pretty much all burners, is Verbatim media.

If you have an 8x burner, buy 8x media. If you have a 16x burner, buy 16x media (I’m talking Verbatim here). Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any specs at all on your burner…so the advice I can give is limited.

Maybe it is time for a new burner?

I did some more digging … couldn’t find a firmware update on the nec site because the 3450 is an oem version of 3500. Went to dell site, found an update for the 3450, flashed, and now I am burning those 16x Imation disks.

thanks for all the info.
