This forum is great - it helps thousands of us out there on how to solve many hair tearing problems. Keep it up. Here’s one more - I just got a new BenQ 16x DVD burner. But received error during 1st time copying DVD movie to a new DVD.

Error msg - long below. Christmas Wish - someone to help to solve . Cheers

@ emcdonalds
Welcome:).
That’s quite an error log. Upgrading your Nero might help. Try that first and attempt another burn. Then, if that doesn’t help, I think it may help you if you change this ASPI entry to version 4.60.

File ‘Drivers\ASPI32.SYS’: Ver=4.71 (0002) built by: WinDDK, size=16512 bytes, created 07/17/2002 9

You can get what you need here. Try installing that and try another burn again. There are a few other things we can try if that doesn’t work. Post to let us know if it DOES work, and if it doesn’t, post a nero infotool system scan(take a look, you will see your ASPI layer near the bottom). Infotool is in your nero toolkit. Save as a .txt file with all 8 boxes checked and attach using the ‘manage atttachments’ button in the ‘go advanced’ reply window.

#3

Have loaded ASPI 4.6 version - still error. Attached is the nero info tool scan as requested. Any ideas on how to proceed ? Much obliged…

#4

here is my error log…burn process fails at 1%…illegal disc…on both of my drives…

You could try removing this driver.

Driver : PxHelp20
Description : Px Engine Device Driver for Windows 2000/XP
Version : 2.02.72a
Company : Sonic Solutions
It has been known in SOME cases to cause conflicts. It comes from Sonic burning software, but I don’t see that listed in your programs. Did you have Sonic, then remove it? Back it up in case you need to reinstall it. Let us know how it goes.

@ John Anderton
I would suspect crappy media as your problem

Disc Manufacturer: OPTODI - SCK001

Try some better quality stuff

Sonic Deluxe came with the DVD rewriter and yes, I had it uninstalled earlier.

I removed pshelp20.sys driver as suggested and then tried again with Nero to copy a data DVD - same error. The drivers are as below.

"Existing drivers:
File ‘Drivers\ASPI32.SYS’: Ver=4.60 (1021), size=25244 bytes, created 09/10/1999 12:06:00 PM
File ‘Drivers\atapi.sys’: Ver=5.1.2600.1106 (xpsp1.020828-1920), size=86912 bytes, created 08/29/2002 4:27:50 PM (Adapter driver for rec)

Registry Keys:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon\AllocateCDROMs : 0 (Security Option) "

I realised that the error line is similar each time and there are a lot of others experiencing the same i.e. “CDR -1135 File Writer.cpp, Line 301 Write error”.

Any other ideas on how to resolve this ?

Did you ever upgrade your nero? If you have the movie image on your HDD, can you burn it to a dvd thru nero express? Another possible solution could br to try to uninstall nero and any other burning programs you have using nero clean tool, then reinstall nero freshly. This has been known to help in some cases where there were conflicting burning programs.

I just noticed that your firmware for your burner is several generations old(B7N9)…try updating your firmware…I think the newest is B7T9…It looks in your error log as if your drive doesn’t recognize the media(!?!) so maybe this will help:)

#10

I have upgraded firmware to B7T9 last nite and tried a new media Imation DVD-R. Still the same error. Will uninstall later Nero tonite and try another DVD burner maybe Sonic that comes with the BenQ drive and another one.

Hang on…

#11

Try some other media. Looking at your log suggests that it may have something to do with the discs you are using. Try a new disc or diferent brand.

#12

cypha12 is correct. Your firmware has no writing strategy that is specific to these discs.

Turned the unit back to the vendor who tested it and found no problems. They tested it with Nero and Sonic Q installed with no conflicts.

So the problem had to be on my computer. Checked the softwares installed and found Qvideo - a software supplied together with the BenQ drive. Some dll conflict when I tried to run the Qvideo. Uninstalled the Qvideo, reboot and now everything burn nicely on my DVD burner! Many coasters along the way till found out this problem.

Just burnt a data DVD and a movie and now burning a home video.

Thanks all for all the help. This is a fantastic forum and keep it up ALL !

hey that’s great news. Thanks for the feedback, your solution may help others. I think it was suggested earlier to remove all other burning programs, I guess that will have to be updated to ‘remove all burning AND VIEWING programs’…:).

Guess what! I am using Pinnacle DV Movie Box with Studio 9 for creating home vids. Run into burning disc problems with Studio 9.

I tried creating the image onto disc and then burning the DVD image using Nero. The burning of the files was OK but can’t play - suspect some files missing .

Anyone got the same problem before ?
