The only incident that I remember before this problem starts was yesterday, I run nero in order to burn a dvd but by error I inserted a cd and nero display a message saying something like wrong media, then the pc hung with the cd-r inside, so I had to restart manually. I don’t know if that has to do but since then the 2 attempt of burn a dvd failed, both with the same error: Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)

I’m using DVD+R Verbatim, never had problems before with these dvds, the dvds that failed are from a pack of 50 from which I burned more than 30 without problems so I don’t think that could be the media.
A strange thing that I noticed is that the dvd-rom (an Asus DRW-1814) seems to be more noisy now

Before the 2nd failed burn I tried reintalling Nero and pluging the dvd-rom in other IDE port but didn’t solve anything.

Any help will be incredible apreciated.

#2

Well, I could burn a dvd at last, at difference with the session that failed
I used Nero instead Nero StartSmart (I picked DVD ISO, I suppose it’s the same that the “Make Data DVD” from Nero StartSmart) and burned at 8x instead at 16x.
I noticed that during the failed session the read buffer oscillated between 5% and 100% continually while in this last successful burn the buffer remained at 99% most of the time. Still no clue of what can be happened, anyway I’ll use Nero from now on, I hope that don’t fail.

ASUS DRW-1814BL 1.10 Pnp680r Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
Turn on your DMA
Physical memory : 511MB (523760kB)
Free physical memory: 92MB (94300kB)
Memory in use : 81 %
Free up some memory by shutting down some programs running in the background.
Disc Manufacturer ID: RITEK, Media Type ID: R05
Use better media such as Verbatim or Tayio Yuden.

#4

I would also update your Nero to the latest version of 6. Here’s what I would really suggest though, use ImgBurn. As you are using Verbatim Dvd+R & if your drive supports it, which I don’t think it does, do not forget to booktype your Verbatim Dvd+R to Dvd-Rom.

Strange, I bought them as Verbatim, a retail 50 pack of verbatim, the surface of each dvd and the label of the pack say verbatim
anyway looks like was not the media but Nero and probably the disabled dma.

Thanks, I do it but only for burning images not for DVD of MP3 or compilations (to lazy to create an image and then burn it :p)

Thanks to both for the help, best regards.
