Epson r280 cis

I have been reading this forum for quite some time, but this is my first post. I have been using an epson r220 with refillable cartridges for a couple of years. This no longer works, so I bought an epson r280. I want to purchase a cis system for the epson r280, but I have questions. I read that there a two chips in this model. How would I find out what chip mine has. I also searched for cis systems online and found a huge price spread, from 47.00 to over 400.00. Which websites are reputible, and what is the best product? The most reasonable system was at cisinks.com- they claim it uses the latest chip and is spongeless. I have read bad reviews about this company. I could use any help figuring out what product to buy and where to buy it. Any suggestions.
thank you all very much,
beverly

The different chips relate to date of manufacture. After April 2007 has the later chip. the earlier printer will use either chip, the later printer can only use the later chip.

You can identify your date of manufacture by the serial number, but you need the code to do so. It’s been posted here and elsewhere, but not for some time. My assumption would be that if you bought a new printer it will be the later chip model.

thank you so much for the reply. I too would assume that the printer I just bought was made after april 2007, but I guess the sensible thing to do would be to get the 2nd generation chip which should work on all of them. I looked at the cis rigs at ink republic http://www.inkrepublic.com/R260.asp
and also one at http://www.cisinks.com/continuous-ink-system-cis-ciss-for-epson-r260-r280-r380-inkjet-printers-p-391.html
the system at csiinks.come is less than half what the other one costs. I know you get what you pay for, but is the one at csiinks.com garbage. I appreciate any help.

I have used CIS systems from www.printonadime.com with good results.

I don’t do CIS, but a forum friend from Nifty-Stuff is very well versed in this arena.
Here is Martin’s (aka Websnail) CIS forum :
