Any idea on the country of origin?

Ritek D01 I would guess based on these reports:

I have had this brand before aand performance has been below average to average. I would not buy them again. The one I had were made in Hong Kong.

#5

OK, thank you, saves me $17…

Infosmart??? RUN AWAY!!! I have a couple of their 8x single layer DVD+R discs lying around and they are CMC Mag, so it seems that Dynex gets around quite a bit. Not anything I would trust my money to, especially not at that price.

#7

My friend bought a pack of these today, the media code was Ricoh Japan something, discs were labeled on the package as coming from Hong Kong.

#8

Yeah, sounds like Infosmart.

#9

Folks dont waste your money

#10

No worries.

#11

FWIW, anything w/ RITEK or RICOH media codes that is Made in Hong Kong has fake media codes. These media codes are only legitimately made in Taiwan.

#12

Only buy MIS DL media only, no Exception

#13

I just bought a spindle of them. Now how can I tell if they’re really that bad or not? I burned 1 so far and the movie turned out perfect as far as I can tell. I’m new to all of this stuff, so break it down Barney Style for me.

#14

I bought some of these last year and they were the Mitsubishi media code (MKM01?) and they burned very well. I still have a couple left.

I certainly wouldn’t buy them again if I knew they were Ritek/Ricoh code.

Start by downloading dvd identifier (free) and id the disks (doesn’t mater if it is burned or blank).
http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/
You should get an id like mkm001 or ritekd01 or something along those lines. With that info we can tell you the quality of the disk. beyond that you can do error scanning (if your burner is capable of it) to see how well the disk burned but that is a more complex issue. This should get you started on error scanning if you want to look into that.

Done! Thanks for the help! Below is what was copied to the clipboard. What is it telling me?

Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R-DL:RICOHJPN-D01-067]

Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R DL] - [DVD+R DL]
Manufacturer Name : [Ricoh Co. Ltd.]
Manufacturer ID : [RICOHJPN]
Media Type ID : [D01]
Product Revision : [067]
Blank Disc Capacity : [4,173,824 Sectors = 8.55 GB (7.96 GiB)]
Recording Speeds : [2.4x , 3.3x-8x]

[ DVD Identifier V5.0.1 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ]

Also, if anyone is interested in the companies website. The only piece of info that is wrong is that the DVDs have a 1 Year Warranty, not 6 Months as the website says.

They are almost certainly fakes then. All of the ones I have seen clearly state Made in Hong Kong on the packaging.

#18

I Don’t blame you and I feel this same.
