DW1650 cooling system

Hello
I have just bought a Benq DW1650, from a well known auction site, (new - old stock); mainly for its scanning via CD/DVD Speed.

While I was installing it I realised that the ventilation holes (Anti-Dust Cooling System (ADCS)/heat chimney), on the right hand side, were being blocked by the mounting bracket of my case.

I have checked various reviews, for different Benq models that use this system, and none have brought up any views about mounting problems.

Is this a poor design feature that can be ignored, or should I find some way to ventilate these holes?

Hi,

my vent holes are blocked also, and I haven’t had any problems yet.

Thanks for your reply, there is some comment about this in the “Post DW1650 Scans here” thread.

By moving the drive to the limits of the screw slots, of my case, I have managed to free about half of the vents. Though even before this all discs have been cool when ejected.

Remove the drive, make a couple of holes with a drill, remount the drive. I even cut away a square of metal to free the vent holes.
