Check out newegg.com. Nice deal on the BenQ…

Wow. I didn’t expect someone posted this already.

I was wandering between two choices.

The first one is the pro version OEM beige at 58$, (including shipping)
the second one is the non-pro retail with 67$ -10$ rebate. (It was free shipping, but not now.) I preferred black, so this was tempting. (It includes the black bazel.)

When I reloaded the webpage, the price has changed to the current one. Sadly(?) I don’t have any other choice now.

The model shown is not a 1620 PRO OEM model. It is a regular oem 1620. The Pro bulk models I have seen look like retail with the BenQ name on faceplate.

#4

I ordered one last night, so we’ll see

Staples is having a sale on bulk 1620s next week (Pacific Digital/I/0 Magic ?) for $39.95 after MIRs. Threads on either FW or Slickdeals. After PM some people are getting them for $13.99 through CC. (YMMV).

#6

I thought I heard that most I/O from staples were not BenQ 1620, but another rebadge brand.

#7

where did u find that price match with cc

#8

they most likely are btc drives, but some people have gotten some that are magic drive or something like that

To correct you the I/O MAGIC 16x burners can either be rebadged BENQ 1620 or crappy BTC. The key is the specs on the box. If the specs state 2.4x speed for DUAL LAYER DVD+R then it is a BENQ 1620 but if states 4x speed DUAL LAYER DVD+R then it’s a crappy BTC drive.

DVD_ADDICT I see you have two 1620’s are they in the same computer? If so can you write to both of them at once?

TIA,
Rick

How does thier price match work? Do you purchase them at cc or at staples? Thanks for any info

To CLAYBUSTER: No, my 2 BENQ 1620 drives are not in the same pc. I burn 2 dvds at the same time by using my PLEXTOR 708A and the BENQ 1620. They are not on the same IDE CHANNEL.

Thanks. Everytime I try to burn to two 1620’s on different IDE channels it kills one of them for some reason (And I mean DEAD). I’ve tested it in two different PCs too.

I jumped on this.

From people’s descriptions, the BTC is much worse than the BenQ drive. Since I’m stuck on campus without a car to the nearest Staples, I can’t choose which burner to buy (and YMMV if the right ones are still in stock).

The PM is not easy to do. You buy from Staples and CC and convince the CC manager not to account for CC’s own rebates (see fatwallet’s forums for more info). After tax, etc., newegg costs $10 more but I’m guaranteed to get the better drive (hopefully the difference is worth it) and I avoid the rebate hassle.

nice price…wish the price was that in singapore here…
