Okay, so I've been lurking around this forum for awhile, learning what I can...
I've been using Shrink to rip, Instantcopy to compress and ImgBurn to burn the .pdi files of my DVDs. I'm using TYG02 discs. I was burning them at 4x and decided to try at 8x last night (what they're rated for). The disc burned at 8x, but failed to verify the burn. So I used the EEPROM utility to clear the learnt media and tried to burn at 6x. That burn successfully verified and hit a max burn speed of 6.0. Then I tried to burn at 4x and got a power calibration error. So I cleared the learnt media and tried at 4x again. Another power calibration error. So I restored the EEPROM image that I had made before all of this started and tried at 4x again. Another power calibration error. Then I tried at 2x and successfully burned and verified.
I did a KProbe's on the first 8x burn, the 6x burn and the 2x burn just to see the burn quality. I attached the results. They don't look that hot.
I'm using firmware USY2-4. I'm not looking to hyper-turbo my drive, I just want it to burn 8x TY discs the way it should. Is there a different write strategy I should be using, or any other sugestions?
I have searched the forum for answers but have come up empty. Please excuse me if a similar question/issue has already been asked.
