[qanda]This thread is about the BenQ DW1640. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]My BQ1640 just stopped being able to recognize CD’s and reports no disc when one is inserted. However, it can read/write DVD’s without any problems. Firmware is BSLB. Does anyone have any idea what may be going on? Thanks!
I had one that did that also, I tried evrything but since it burned DVDs just fine, I used my other drive for CDs. I wish I could help.:o
Flash the drive to BSRB and try burning a CD again.
Welcome to CDF.
As mentioned by negritude, try flashing drive to different f/w.
When experiencing problems, it is worth flashing in safemode too.
If CD burning is really important to you.
It may be worth trying crossflashing.
But do this as a last resort.
If drive is on the way out.
This could be the final nail in the coffin.
I have the same problem, except mine was a phillips 8701 oem. I crossed flashed it to the 1640 f/w after this problem cropped up. Although DVD reading & writing still works great(the audio is actually clearer, now), the drive still won’t recognize CD’s of any kind (blank, software, audio, etc.). I only have this drive for optical storage, so reading CD’s with it is still important.
