Hi sorry I disappeared for so long…I ended up giving up a long time ago because I could not find a IDE to USB adapter that would read the drives…I found out today the drives are software locked…I found out how to unlock them and have ripped the kernel and flash for the teac (dvr-116) clone…shoot me a pm with an email or something and i’ll send them over!..Thanks Blackened!

@ Darkflame: Maybe you could use zippyshare?

#63

Thank you HM01, your recommendation was painless and quick! Much appreciated!

Great job, blackened2687!

Now that I found this thread, I hope my drive will be able to work with the 1.33 firmware, currently it has 8.11 (seems to be an OEM type, claiming to be prepared for BD XL). I hope I’ll be able to cross-flash it to a regular BDR-209M drive; but I have two questions I cannot solve without your help.

DVRTool -i:
Drive Information:
Model Name : PIONEER BD-RW BDR-209M
Firmware Rev : 8.11
Extra Info : 14/01/16 PIONEER
Serial Number : NCDL010563WL
Buffer Size : 4000 kiB

Additional Drive Information:
Label Code : BDR-209MBK
Hardware Rev : SAT 8600
Kernel Type : ID52
Firmware Type : ID52
Kernel Version : 0000

Drive is in normal mode.
Firmware flashing support : YES
Firmware dumping support : NO

CD-ROM : R BD-ROM : R
CD-R : R/W BD-R : R/W
CD-RW : R/W BD-R XL : R/W

A first attempt to get firmware:
Got 1.33 for GENERAL KERNEL (BDR-209M_FW133EU.EXE),
opened it with 7-zip, opened Updater.exe with 7-zip, and got a binary ressource “132” (1854 kB). This file in an ASCII editor starts with
******** Copyright© 2000 Pioneer Corporation *******
This is a microcode file.
ID : PIONEER BD-RW BDR-209M

Is this the firmware file to use?
How do I get the needed password for my drive?

Thanks a lot to all the active members here!

#65

Unfortunately, we don’t yet have any kernel for BDR-209/S09 series drives (and it’s unclear, do these drives have any additional protection from crossflashing or not), so for today crossflashing is impossible. Unless any newer firmware with ID52 kernel will appear, you will be limited to 8.11 firmware.

Maybe in the future we will overcome these restrictions. I hope for it, as well.

A question to all the people familiar with firmware disassembling/reversing. I have an unencrypted flash dump from BDC-202 drive, read it from the flash chip using an external programming hardware. If someone is interested, I can provide this dump for research - maybe it’s possible to find some interesting commands or even to figure out the encryption scheme used in these drives.

blackened2687,
thank you very much for that instant reply!
Bad luck for me, but I’ll hope for a kernel/firmware update with ID52 in the future.

I would like to crossflash into a Pioneer BDR-207EBK.

If I enter the command: DVRTool -f h: S8000601.160
The program responds: File #1: Hardware or kernel type mismatch.

If I enter the command: DVRTool -ff h: S8000601.160
The program responds: Enter password and press <ENTER>:

But I do not know the password.
What can I do???

#68

Problem is that we don’t have ANY kernel for BDR-207 series - so the crossflash is currently impossible.

I can give you the password for your drive, but it wouldn’t make any sense without a proper kernel firmware…

#69

Bad luck for me, but many thanks for the quick reply.

#70

Haven’t dared to try this, but now I think I need help.

I upgraded my trusty Pioneer BDR-S09XLT to the official firmware v1.34 (EU). And now all my CMC MAG-DI6000 and MEIRB1-001 BD-R DL 50GB burns fail even at 2x. They were perfectly ok with firmware v1.33. Or then the batch of discs has changed with the latest order.

Is it safe to force-flash firmware 1.33 (EU) over firmware 1.34 (EU) on S09XLT? This is NOT a cross-flashed drive, but a genuine unit.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks!

My S09XLT has no problems with MEIRB1(001) using 1.34.

With me on the Pioneer BDR-209EBK fw.1.34 also correctly write to BD-R DL …
Maybe before firmware 1.34 with some errors is installed?
You can also install firmware 1.34 DVRTool program and check.
