DVR-K05 not burning DVD-R at 8X

So I took the plunge and upgraded to a slot loading DL DVD burner. I just downloaded the new PC Wizard 2006 to mess around with and noticed that the burn speeds were off. Here are the burn specifications for the Pioneer DVR-K05:

CD-R: 24X
CD-RW:24X
DVD-R: 8X
DVD-RW: 6X
DVD+R: 8X
DVD+RW: 8X
DVD-R DL: 4X
DVD+R DL: 4X

Below are the speeds that PC Wizard 2006 is reporting.

CD-R: 24X
CD-RW:14X
DVD-R: 6X
DVD-RW: 2X
DVD+R: 6X
DVD+RW: 2X
DVD-R DL: 2X
DVD+R DL: 2X

To be sure, I burned a full 4.7GB of data to an 8X Fuji DVD-R with Nero 6.6.0.18 and it took 14 minutes. Nero does report that it’s burning at 8x but after the 8 or so minutes are up in the time remaining field, it automatically adds another 5 minutes.

My notebook specs are:
Compaq V2000Z
Turion ML-37
1.5GB PC3200
80GB 7200RPM
Pioneer DVR-K05 with firmware 1.03

I’d appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks in advance.

Slimtype drives are slower than HH ones, even when burning.

You could perform a speed burst test and other tests to see the results…

Yeah, I figured that. But I think it’s an error on PC Wizard’s part. I used Nero CD/DVD Speed to test the drive and it was reading at almost 8X like it’s supposed to. Then I ran PC Wizard again and got the results posted below.
