Dvr-710/dvr111 Help?

Recently I’ve bought, and had help putting together, my first “real” computer. We went with this drive based on good reviews and what not. My problem is that it doesn’t read most, if any, discs. I took 4 or 5 tries just to get through installing the motherboard because the drive would just stop reading the disc. After that the only way I’ve been able to get it to read any other installation discs is to uninstall, then reinstall…let alone reading a DVD or other disc.

Help? I’m not a computer genius, but I’m really good with directions. I’ve tried everything I can think of and I’m at my wits end. :sigh:

@ mystyxiii,

Welcome to the Forum.

For the DVR-710/DVR-111 to function and operate correctly requires the use of an Ultra DMA (80-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cable (http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/ide/confCable80-c.html) and operate in the Ultra DMA Mode 4 (http://club.cdfreaks.com/f61/troubleshooting-enabling-checking-dma-windows-vista-xp-2000-me-9x-101616/). Suggest ensuring that you have the correct IDE Cable and your DVR-710/DVR-111 Drive is operating in the Ultra DMA Mode 4.

Most likely bjkg solution is the fix for the problem as I too had problems initially with my 111D until I changed to 80 wire IDE cable which can be found for $2 or $3 from various sources. You might try flashing with latest firmware if problems persist after 80 wire IDE cable is installed.
