DVR-212 problems with upgrade to v2.24

Hi!

I’ve Pioneer DVR-212 DVD recorder, initially with 1.21 firmware and I’ve upgraded (with no problems) to 1.22 firmware.

Today I downloaded new 1.24 firmware and get error:

/// ODD Firmware Update Utility Ver2.57A

Start updating the device No.1.
Current Revision>> PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-212 1.22 07/06/29
Current Signature = GENERAL
The firmware of target drive is not correct F/W.
This firmware is not supported by this program.

when I run last 1.22 firmware I get:

/// ODD Firmware Update Utility Ver2.57A

Start updating the device No.1.
Current Revision>> PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-212 1.22 07/06/29
Current Signature = GENERAL
The firmware of target drive is not correct F/W.
This firmware is not supported by this program.

I’ve downloaded F/W from two different locationas and it isn’t corrupted and drive model seems to be ok. I run Windows XP, Asus P5K with P35+ICH9R chipset in AHCI mode (but in IDE mode is the same error).

New firmware has following header (very similar to 1.22):

******** Copyright© 2000 Pioneer Corporation ********
This is microcode file.
ID : PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-212
Revision Level : 1.24
Hardware Version : SAT 0013
Kernel Version : GENERAL

File Type : Plane
Generated Date : 07/08/08
Kernel Version2 : 0001

Any ideas?!

Now I find that (probably) I’ve 1.22 firmware RPC1 patched by MCSE 1.1.0.6…

Patch the flasher with MCSE, look here for instructions.

Yep, it helps - thanks a lot. It’s interesting how it recognized that it wasn’t original firmware?! Every new firmware keeps list of CRC sums for every previous firmware?! :a

BTW bitsetting for DVD+R (SL) and read speed patch work great!

They simply detect the RPC1 mode.

That’s very unfair

Nope. The law forces them to do that.
… The law forces them to do that.

As long as we have ala42 and The Dangerous Brothers they force “them”…:bigsmile:

pinto2,

you know what I meant. It is one side and the other side is that there are easy ways to make your drive usage more convienient…
