Pioneer is expected to release the DVR-116/116D (PATA) and DVR-216/216D (SATA) series of DVD burners in late June. The drives are expected to feature the same specifications with the company’s current DVD-115/115D and DVR-215/215D series, with the only major change to be the 12X burning speed for DVD-/+R DL media.

Great to hear man I am waiting for the 215 just to hear the 216 come out.

I will skip the 115 and wait for the 116

I hope 215 or 216 show up in the USA sometime…

I almost paid about 100.00 USD to just get the 215 model from Australia. Something told me to wait though as it would be on newegg in a month or so.

Thanks for the update, nekrosoft13 :flower:

Now I’m just wondering if the new DVR-116/216 will still have the same chipset and design as 112/115 or 212/215.

#7

It is said nothing has changed but the faster write speeds.

#8

If they still follow the same design as DVR-115/215 series, a firmware upgrade to support 12X DVD±DL would be much better.

Perhaps they think it’s much easier to tell everyone they support 12X DL burning by introducing a new model instead of announcing firmware upgrade on their website?

#9

That is what sales do best. Cyberlink is doing the same thing soon with version 8.

#10

I feel a bit disappointed that I bought the 115 a month ago.

#11

Thanks for the Good News nekrosoft13

They surely come with a newer PUH/chipset, be assured.

“IF” is just a wishful thinking here.

BTW, regarding the linked article, “BD-ROM drives” is a wrony synonym, “BD combo” is the thing meant.

 Me too. :iagree:

And then hopefully ALA 42 can do his magic a short while after.

DVR-215 SATA, black or beige, supposedly HERE in the US. First ones I’ve seen.

I may just buy one to replace the DVR-112D in System 2. Problem is, I can’t think of a good excuse to replace a pretty good drive except to go SATA.

I’m still waiting for the new Optiarc AD-7200S SATA to hit the US, so I can replace that highly overrated Samsung SH-S203B SATA I bought for System 1. The Optiarc AD-7170 it replaced was one of the best drives I’ve ever owned (except for my old NEC ND-3500). The AD-7170 is still on the shelf and I might just swap it back in.
