DVR-111D can't burn DVD-R

I’m having this problem with DVR-111D. On GQ DVD-R, it burns 12x up to 97% and fails. I tried burning 4x on Fuji DVD-R, it finished ok but the disc can’t be played back on PC or any player. I’m using Nero 7. So far, the media that I can burn and play back ok is Memorex DVD+RW at 4x.

The burner is on the master of 2nd IDE. Transfer is at DMA4. The firmware is Pioneer 1.23.

This is the fail error from Nero log:

Anyone has the same problem? What’s the solution for this? Please help, thanks.

I’d suspect that it’s the media that’s the problem.

Get the Media ID from CD-DVD Speed & post then back.

Fuji isn’t that good these days I don’t think & GQ - well.

The 111 range burn Taiyo Yuden & Verbatim very nicely.

TimC,
Thanks for the response. I’ll post the Media ID later when I get home. I had the DVR-106 for 2 years and it burns any media I tried so far. Why is this 111D picky on media? Is it bad firmware?

I think the earlier Pios like the 105 & 106 might have been better with poor media. A friend had the 105 & managed to burn some really crappy media that none of my burners could even complete a burn on.

The latest 1.29 firmware might help but somehow I doubt it.

mdx01, why do you doublepost and crosspost? ???

You burn that crap media at 12x and then complain when it fails.

i’d suggest you try verb mcc004 media made in taiwan, preferable made by cmc. enclosed are a few scans of writing quality burnt w/my new pio (although you have to be aware of differences when buying made in taiwan from mcc as there is more than one manufacturer involved. i’ve also had burns within the specs which shows more badly quality and i’ve had better quality also. it just depends on the media, but overall you could say sth like this media is overall good ; but i have to say, those media is running out of stock over here & it looks like india is the 1st source now) and one more thing, dunno how the made in india mcc004 works with the 111d, as i couldn’t test it since i have the new writer) oh, they’re all burnt @8x

I’ll look for the Verbatim DVD+R and give it a try.
