DVD's made on PC not working properly on player

OK, I’m gonna try and explain my problem giving as many details as possible. I would appreciate any help.

Just got a brand new Dell with a NEC ND-3450A Burner in it. (it.s a P4 3.4, gig of memory)… I bought the newest Sonic MyDVD to go with it. I’ve tried burning several DVD’s… Some from TiVo files and some from my capture card I had on my other computer.

MyDVD says they burn successful, but when I try playing them in my DVD Players they freeze a certain point in and won’t go past that part… I have two Sony players, one is a RDR-GX300, not sure on what the other hand is to be sure.

Also, I am currently using Memorex DVD+R’s.

What “chunks” are those - pineapple?

@thomamon: the GX300 is a DVD recorder, though, AFAIK…? Whatever, the signs sound like poor media - download DVDInfoPro (freeware; here) and let us know what the media code of the Memorex discs is.

As a general point, you may get better playback compatibility if you burn your DVD +Rs with the booktype set to DVD-ROM. The DVDInfoPro app above has an option which may work with your NEC drive to enable this.

Whoa, I am a little confused… I been reading around and saw other people with the same problem, so I just ordered 50 Ritek’s to try.

I’ll try what you said and get back in a bit.

Ritek discs are usually fine. Let us know…

This may help:

Look at the “Branding Guide” about halfway down, then match the media codes used by Memorex to the classification at the upper end of the page. Then do some more matching with what DVDInfoPro tells you about the media code of your Memorex discs…

It seems as if that program has expired on 3/17 if it’s not registered…

Any clue about getting it to work?

I also have some TDK to try in the mean time, why not? Seems as if they may be better.

WHich do you use and do you have any suggestions of where to purchase them?

Thanks to other ex-DVDPlusRW forum members’ advice, I am always buying by media code rather than manufacturer. Buying on-line from suppliers who give such information. I can thoroughly recommend SVP here). Look for the “ADVinfo” tag to get the media code…

Grade A Ritek G04 (-R) have been good, and recently SVP have a stock of Ricoh +Rs which are amongst the best available.

Edit: Just seen your additional post - despite their ‘second-level’ rating in the link I quoted, I and others here have found Ricoh dye to be the best available, and above Ritek. The medium code RICOHJPNR01 for the TDKs indicates they’ll be just fine.

Not sure if the Ritek I got were G04.

Do you use printable DVD’s?

Would it be more expensive for me to order from over seas?

OK well they’re going to be better than the CMCs…

I do use printables with an Epson R200 - truely excellent results.

I dunno about prices for overseas shipping with SVP - the best thing is to make an order and look at the calculated shipping cost. I know they do send stuff abroad.
